Nanchang Changbei International Airport guide

Nanchang Changbei International Airport opened on 10 September 1999, replacing the older Nanchang Xiangtang Airport that had served the city since 1957. Jiangxi Airport Group owns the airport, while Capital Airport Holding manages daily operations. China Eastern Airlines and Jiangxi Air operate it as a base, and it gained international status in 2004.

A major expansion completed in 2011 raised the airport to Class 4E standard, lifting annual capacity to 12 million passengers. Passenger growth slowed to 6.3%, 3.4% and 5% between 2014 and 2016 as China's expanding high-speed rail network diverted travellers, prompting Nanchang city and Jiangxi province to subsidize new flights from 2017, when traffic grew 39% and exceeded 10 million for the first time. In 2025 the airport handled 11.94 million passengers and 92,149 aircraft movements, up 5.9% and 4.1% on the previous year, along with 42,414 tonnes of cargo.

Nanchang Metro's Line 1 extension reached the airport in June 2025, and a further phase of construction is under way to link the airport to the Nanchang–Jiujiang high-speed rail line, easing the ground-transport bottleneck that has constrained growth in the past.
