Daxing'anling Elunchun Airport guide

The airport sits just south of Jiagedaqi, the administrative seat of the Daxing'anling Prefecture in northern Heilongjiang. It lies in the Greater Khingan Mountains, close to the border with Inner Mongolia, in one of China's largest forested regions.

The site began in 1970 as a forest fire-fighting airfield and still carries a forestry aviation role alongside its civil one. A 2016 national development plan approved a new civil airport on the existing field, with the runway extended to 2,300 metres and a terminal of about 4,870 square metres with three aircraft stands. The airfield is rated 4C, which suits regional jets such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737. A short 500-metre runway serves general aviation flying.

The airport is a regional feeder. China Eastern links it to Harbin, Dalian, Beijing Daxing and Shanghai Pudong. Chengdu Airlines flies to Harbin and Mohe, the northernmost town in China. Traffic is small and seasonal, with winter cold and summer tourism to the forest region shaping demand.

The prefecture also has a second civil airport at Mohe Gulian, which makes Daxing'anling the first prefecture-level region in China with two airports.
