Xilinhot Airport guide

Xilinhot Airport serves Xilinhot, the seat of Xilin Gol League in the grasslands of central Inner Mongolia. It sits southwest of the city, with the city centre roughly 15 km away. The airport is the main air link for the league, an area of steppe and pastoral towns with few other commercial airports nearby.

Civilian flights began in 1958. The airport moved to its current site on July 22, 1992, and the present terminal opened in August 2009 with about 5,847 square metres of floor space. It is a one-and-a-half-storey building that handles domestic flights only. A boarding bridge was added at gate 5 during an upgrade in 2019 and 2020, and a planned second phase includes a T3 domestic terminal.

The airfield has a single concrete runway, 04/22, 2,800 metres long and 45 metres wide, rated 4C. In 2025 the airport handled 1,185,919 passengers, 17,601 aircraft movements and 884 tonnes of cargo. Service is mostly to regional and national destinations, including Hohhot, Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Harbin and Xi'an, flown by Air China, China Express Airlines, Tianjin Airlines, Chengdu Airlines and Genghis Khan Airlines.
