Hohhot Baita International Airport guide

Hohhot Baita International Airport serves Hohhot, the capital of China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, from a site in Saihan District a short drive east of downtown. The airport takes its name from the nearby Wanbu Huayanjing Pagoda, a Liao dynasty landmark known locally as the White Pagoda (Baita), which stands a few kilometres to the southeast.

The airport opened on October 1, 1958, and is operated by the Inner Mongolia Civil Aviation Airport Group Company. Its current terminal, completed in June 2007, replaced an older facility and was built with capacity for around three million passengers a year — traffic has since grown well beyond that figure, driven mainly by domestic routes.

Most flights connect Hohhot with other cities across China, from regional Inner Mongolian destinations such as Hailar, Xilinhot and Manzhouli to major hubs including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. International service is limited, with Ulaanbaatar in neighbouring Mongolia among the few scheduled overseas routes. A new facility, Hohhot Shengle International Airport, is under construction in Horinger County and is planned to take over all operations once complete, after which Baita Airport will close.
