Chisasibi Airport Guide
Chisasibi Airport is also known as Chief Robert Kanatewat Airport, after the Chisasibi chief who signed the 1975 James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement. It sits on the south shore of the La Grande River, about 5 km northwest of the Cree community of Chisasibi in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of northern Quebec. Its Transport Canada identifier is CSU2.
The airport has a single gravel runway, 14/32, measuring 1,156 m (3,793 ft) at an elevation of 13 m. The Cree Nation of Chisasibi operates the terminal, and the facility was unveiled in 2006.
Air Creebec, based in Waskaganish, is the scheduled carrier and uses Chisasibi as one of its hubs. It flies from here to Eastmain, Kuujjuarapik, Montreal-Trudeau, Val-d'Or, Waskaganish and Wemindji, and also runs charter and freight flights. The airport supports Cree Patient Services (Wiichihiituwin), which arranges medical travel for Cree beneficiaries who must leave Eeyou Istchee for care. Flight schedules, parcel delivery and flight lists go through Air Creebec or Wiichihiituwin. The airport manager's office can be reached at (819) 855-2665.
