Tho Xuan Airport guide

Tho Xuan Airport sits in Sao Vang town, Tho Xuan district, in northern Thanh Hoa province. It lies about 45 km from Thanh Hoa city. The site began as the Sao Vang military airfield, and it is still shared with the Vietnam People's Air Force.

Civil flights began in 2013. The passenger terminal was commissioned in 2016 with a design capacity of 1.2 million passengers a year. Traffic reached about 1.6 million in 2022, well above that figure, so the Airports Corporation of Vietnam rebuilt and extended the terminal between March and June 2025. The work enlarged check-in, security screening and baggage claim areas.

The single concrete runway, 13/31, is 3,200 m long. Service is domestic only. Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air connect the airport with Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Da Lat. Plans approved in 2018 would lift annual capacity to 5 million passengers by 2030 and give the airport international status. It is also planned as a relief airport for Hanoi's Noi Bai.
