Carrasco General Cesáreo L. Berisso International Airport guide

Carrasco International Airport is Uruguay's principal international gateway, sited on the coast in Ciudad de la Costa, within Canelones Department, and linked to central Montevideo by Ruta Interbalnearia. Its original terminal opened in 1947, and the airport carries the formal name of aviation pioneer Cesáreo L. Berisso. Since 2003 Uruguay's civil aviation authority, DINACIA, has held the site under concession, with Puerta del Sur S.A. — part of the Corporación América Airports group — running day-to-day operations.

LATAM is the dominant carrier, followed by Aerolíneas Argentinas, American Airlines, Gol, Avianca, Air Europa, Azul and JetSMART, connecting Montevideo to Buenos Aires, São Paulo, Santiago, Panama City, Madrid and a seasonal Miami route. Traffic climbed back above two million passengers a year after a pandemic-era dip, and cargo handling adds close to 29,000 tonnes annually.

The current terminal, opened in December 2009, was designed by Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly and has won international architecture awards for its curved steel-and-glass roof. The airport also shares its two runways with a Uruguayan Air Force base, a dual civil-military role dating back to its founding.
