Sioux Falls Regional Airport Guide
Sioux Falls Regional Airport sits about three miles north of downtown Sioux Falls, on 2801 Jaycee Lane. It is the busiest airport in South Dakota and the main gateway for the southeastern part of the state, along with nearby parts of Iowa and Minnesota. The field is owned by the City of Sioux Falls and run by the Sioux Falls Regional Airport Authority.
The airport opened as Sioux Falls Municipal Airport on September 15, 1939. From 1942 the U.S. government leased it as the Sioux Falls Army Air Field, where about 40,000 radio operators trained during World War II. The triangular three-runway layout dates from that era. Joe Foss organized the South Dakota Air National Guard here in 1946, and the field was later named Joe Foss Field. The Guard still occupies the south side of the airfield.
The terminal has seven gates, all with loading bridges. United, American, Delta and Allegiant carry most of the traffic, and all four each handled well over 100,000 enplanements in 2025. Cargo flights by FedEx and UPS also use the field. The AeroStay Hotel is connected directly to the terminal, and the airport also has a restaurant, gift shops and TSA PreCheck.
