Aberdeen Regional Airport Guide

Aberdeen Regional Airport sits at 4740 SE Sixth Avenue, about two nautical miles east of downtown Aberdeen in Brown County, South Dakota. The City of Aberdeen owns it. The field started life in 1921 as Aberdeen Municipal Airport and hosted what is described as South Dakota's first fly-in event in 1923. It was renamed Saunders Field in 1946 and took back the Aberdeen Municipal name in 1979.

The airport has two runways. Runway 13/31 is 6,901 feet of concrete and Runway 17/35 is 5,500 feet of asphalt. In 2022 it logged 39,746 aircraft operations, roughly 109 a day. General aviation made up 83 percent of that traffic, air taxi 13 percent and scheduled airline service 4 percent.

Scheduled passenger service is a single carrier. SkyWest flies for Delta Connection between Aberdeen and Minneapolis/St. Paul, with the route supported by the federal Essential Air Service program. The terminal has one gate, and a passenger jet bridge installed in 2019 handles aircraft up to the size of an Airbus A321. Alpine Air Express and FedEx Feeder carry cargo to Sioux Falls. The terminal is open from 4:00 am to midnight, with free parking and free Wi-Fi. Multiple fixed base operators serve charter, fuel and hunting travelers in pheasant season.
