Cleveland Hopkins International Airport Guide
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport sits 14 km southwest of downtown Cleveland in the city's Hopkins neighborhood, adjacent to NASA's Glenn Research Center. It is Ohio's largest and busiest airport, serving Greater Cleveland and the broader Northeast Ohio region including Akron. In 2024 the airport handled 10.2 million passengers — its first 10-million year since 2019.
The airport holds several firsts in U.S. aviation history: it was the first airport to install an air traffic control tower (1929) and the first in North America connected directly to a rail transit line (1968). Today, the RTA Red Line links Hopkins to downtown Cleveland and other city neighborhoods. The airport is currently mid-way through a $1.6 billion CLEvolution modernization program expected to complete in 2032.
Frontier and United are among the dominant carriers, with Frontier surpassing United in monthly passengers in 2024. Air Canada provides the only scheduled international service. Three runways handle roughly 92,000 aircraft movements per year.
