Elmira Corning Regional Airport serves the Southern Tier of New York and the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania. It sits in the town of Big Flats, about 7 miles northwest of Elmira and 8 miles east of Corning, with a mailing address in Horseheads. Chemung County owns it and has run it since 1945, with a staff of 16 county employees. Security and operations are on site around the clock.
The airport has three runways. The longest, 6/24, is 8,001 feet and has an instrument landing system. Runway 10/28 is 5,404 feet, and a 2,017-foot turf strip, 5/23, handles light aircraft. Index C aircraft rescue and firefighting coverage is available for airline operations.
A state-funded terminal redesign, completed in November 2018, added passenger space and two jet bridges. Delta Connection flights to Detroit, operated by SkyWest, carry the most passengers. Allegiant flies leisure routes to Florida, including Orlando/Sanford, St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Punta Gorda and Sarasota.
