Albany International Airport Guide
Albany International Airport sits on about 1,200 acres in the town of Colonie, at the junction of Interstate 87 and Interstate 90. It is the main air center for the Capital Region, northeastern New York, western New England and southern Vermont. The site on Albany Shaker Road was chosen in 1928 for a new municipal airfield.
The airport handled about 3.1 million passengers and 64,383 aircraft operations in 2025, close to 1.6 million of them departing passengers. Southwest Airlines carries the largest share of traffic, followed by Delta and American. Allegiant, Breeze, JetBlue and United also fly scheduled routes, mostly to East Coast and Florida destinations.
The current terminal opened in June 1998, built around the older building, and only the 1979 extension of that building remains. A terminal expansion and a Concourse A rehabilitation are under way, so some entrances near the front of the terminal can be closed. Albany County owns the airport and the Albany County Airport Authority operates it. Two asphalt runways serve it: 01/19 at 8,500 feet and 10/28 at 7,200 feet.
