Fayetteville Regional Airport, long known locally as Grannis Field, serves the Sandhills region of southern North Carolina from a site about 6 km south of downtown Fayetteville. The Airport Commission formed in 1947 and secured 722 acres one mile east of US 301. Construction began in 1948, and the field opened in 1949 with Piedmont Airlines as its first scheduled carrier. Boardings rose from 756 that year to 68,816 by 1966.

The City of Fayetteville owns the airport, and the Fayetteville Airport Commission oversees its operation. American Airlines flies daily to its Charlotte hub and Delta Air Lines flies daily to Atlanta. The passenger terminal has two TSA checkpoints, one on each of its first two floors, and a USO center sits in the secure area. The final phase of the terminal renovation is complete.

Two asphalt runways handle the traffic, 4/22 at 7,709 ft and 10/28 at 4,801 ft. The field recorded 33,327 aircraft operations in 2022, about 91 a day. A separate general aviation terminal serves private and charter flights.
