Houghton County Memorial Airport Guide
Houghton County Memorial Airport sits in Franklin Township on the Keweenaw Peninsula, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It is the northernmost airport in the state. The site covers about 2,400 acres, including a 204-acre industrial park, and lies between Calumet and the twin towns of Houghton and Hancock.
The airport was dedicated in September 1948 under a co-operative agreement between Canada, the U.S. government, the State of Michigan and Houghton County. It has two asphalt runways: 13/31 at 6,500 by 150 feet and 7/25 at 5,201 by 100 feet. An instrument landing system supports approaches in the region's heavy winter weather.
SkyWest flies United Express service twice daily to Chicago O'Hare. Royale Air Service runs seasonal charters to Isle Royale National Park, and FedEx and UPS provide cargo service. The Houghton County Airport Committee, which reports to the county Board of Commissioners, runs the airport.
