Alpena County Regional Airport Guide
Alpena County Regional Airport sits at 1617 Airport Road, about 11 km (6 nautical miles) west of the central business district of Alpena, on Michigan's Lake Huron shore. The field was dedicated in 1931 and served as a US Army Air Corps training base until 1947, when it passed to county control. The Air National Guard arrived in 1952.
The airport is a joint civil and military facility. It hosts the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center, home of the Michigan Air National Guard's Alpena Air National Guard Base. In 2021 the field recorded 5,252 aircraft operations, of which 44% were military, 40% general aviation and 20% air taxi.
Delta Connection provides the only scheduled passenger service, a route to Detroit that carried about 11,000 passengers between September 2023 and August 2024. FedEx Feeder flies cargo to Flint. Two concrete runways serve the field. Runway 1/19 is 9,001 ft long, long enough for large military aircraft, and runway 7/25 is 5,028 ft.
