Martha's Vineyard Airport Guide
Martha's Vineyard Airport sits near the middle of the island, on the border of West Tisbury and Edgartown in Dukes County, Massachusetts. It is one of three airports on the island and the only one with scheduled airline service. Most commercial flying happens in summer, when seasonal jet service joins the year-round commuter flights.
The airfield was built during World War II as a Naval Auxiliary Air Facility to train naval aviators, and it opened to civilian use on May 27, 1946. The Martha's Vineyard Airport Commission, a volunteer body appointed by the county, runs it for Dukes County. Two asphalt runways serve the field, and a runway reconstruction costing about $10 million finished in May 2019.
The current terminal opened in 2001. It has two gates, ticket counters, a restaurant and a baggage claim. In summer a tent seating up to 150 people serves as the waiting area for screened passengers. The ramp holds up to 50 aircraft, which reflects the heavy private and charter traffic the island draws. Cape Air links the island to Boston, Hyannis, Nantucket and New Bedford, while American Eagle, Delta Connection and JetBlue add seasonal flights to Charlotte, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and Washington.
