New Bedford Regional Airport Guide
New Bedford Regional Airport sits about three nautical miles northwest of downtown New Bedford in Bristol County, Massachusetts. The city built it between 1940 and 1942, and the U.S. Army Air Forces used it during World War II. It received FAA Part 139 certification for scheduled commercial service in 2017.
Cape Air is the only scheduled passenger carrier. It flies small aircraft to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, with trips of about 25 and 20 minutes, and began daily year-round service to Boston Logan in September 2025. Cape Air carried 1,962 passenger boardings in 2024, down from more than 24,000 at its 1999 peak.
Most traffic is general aviation. The FAA counted 48,988 operations in the year ending June 2019, roughly 89 percent of them general aviation, and 93 aircraft were based on the field in April 2022. A control tower operates from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. inside Class D airspace. Customs service is available 24 hours on request. Bridgewater State University runs an aviation program from the field, which is also part of a Foreign Trade Zone.
