Decatur Airport sits in Macon County, about five miles east of Decatur, Illinois. The Decatur Park District owns it, which is unusual for a commercial-service airport in the United States. The airport covers roughly 2,100 acres and has a control tower.

The airfield has three paved runways: 6/24 at 8,496 feet, 12/30 at 6,799 feet and 18/36 at 5,298 feet. The longest runway handles business jets and military aircraft. The FAA counted 29,285 aircraft operations in the 12 months ending December 31, 2020, about 80 a day. General aviation made up 78 percent of the traffic, military 15 percent, air taxi 4 percent and scheduled airlines 3 percent. The airport had 62 based aircraft in April 2022. The Illinois Army National Guard runs an Army Aviation Support Facility on 10 acres of the field.

Scheduled airline service is limited. United Express flies to Chicago O'Hare, where passengers connect to the United network. The federal Essential Air Service program subsidizes the route. The single terminal is about 24,000 square feet and holds airline counters, a restaurant, baggage claim and car rental counters.
