Savannah Hilton Head International Airport Guide
Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport serves coastal Georgia and the South Carolina Lowcountry from a site about 13 km northwest of Savannah's Historic District. The airport began as Chatham Field in 1942, and its current 275,000-square-foot terminal opened in May 1994. The terminal opened with eight gates, designed to expand to 19, and a 2007 expansion brought the total to 15 departure gates.
The airport is owned by the City of Savannah and managed by the Savannah Airport Commission. It has two concrete runways: 10/28, at 9,351 feet, and 01/19, at 7,002 feet. In 2024 it handled 4,134,381 passengers and 114,986 aircraft operations; passenger traffic rose to 4,234,531 in 2025.
Scheduled airlines include Delta, American, United, Southwest, JetBlue, Allegiant, Avelo, Breeze and Sun Country. Several of the leisure carriers fly seasonally. The airport serves both Savannah and Hilton Head Island, and the Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards named it the top airport in the United States for 2026, the seventh consecutive year.
