Southwest Georgia Regional Airport sits about four miles southwest of Albany, in Dougherty County. The City of Albany owns it. The airport opened in 1935 as a municipal field, and from 1940 to 1944 it served as an Army Air Corps training base where American and British cadets learned to fly. It returned to civilian control in September 1945.

Passenger service is light. Delta Connection runs three daily regional jet flights to Atlanta, which connect to Delta's national and international network. The airport handles about 40,000 aircraft operations a year and has around 35 based aircraft.

Two asphalt runways serve the field: Runway 5/23 at 6,601 feet and Runway 17/35 at 5,219 feet. UPS operates an air cargo sort facility on the airfield with Airbus A300-600 freighters, supplying Southwest Georgia, southeastern Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. The region is known for quail hunting, which brings private aircraft in during the season.
