Miami International Airport Guide
Miami International Airport lies about 10 km west-northwest of downtown Miami and is American Airlines' main gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean. It handled 55.9 million passengers in 2024, the 10th highest total among US airports and 27th worldwide, with 25.2 million of them international. MIA ranks first in the US for international freight, moving about 3 million tons of cargo in 2024.
Three terminals, North, Central and South, serve six concourses: D, E, F, G, H and J. American Airlines operates from Concourse D in the North Terminal, while carriers such as JetBlue, Qatar Airways, Delta, United, Emirates and Lufthansa use the Central and South terminals. The airport has four runways, the longest at 3,967 m.
MIA is owned by Miami-Dade County and operated by the Miami-Dade Aviation Department. The county is carrying out a $9 billion capital program that has renovated conveyance units, restrooms and boarding bridges across the terminals. The Skytrain automated people mover operates within the airport, and the airport connects to the Miami Intermodal Center, which includes Metrorail and Tri-Rail stations. More than 80 airlines serve MIA, with nonstop flights to roughly 150 destinations.
