Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport sits in unincorporated Broward County, about 4.8 km southwest of downtown Fort Lauderdale and 34 km north of Miami. Commercial flights began there on 2 January 1953, and the first permanent terminal building opened in 1959.
The airport has four terminals with 67 gates. In 2025 it handled 32.2 million passengers and about 302,500 aircraft movements. Terminal 1 serves Southwest, Allegiant, Frontier, United and Alaska, among others. Terminal 2 hosts Delta, Air Canada and WestJet. Terminal 3 is home to JetBlue's domestic flights, American and Avelo, while Terminal 4 handles JetBlue's international flights and carriers such as Air Transat and Flair. JetBlue treats Fort Lauderdale as a focus city and Allegiant keeps an operating base here.
Two runways run east-west: 10L/28R at 9,000 ft and 10R/28L at 8,000 ft. A new Terminal 5, a $404 million facility with five gates, is scheduled for completion by 2030. The airport is owned and operated by the Broward County Aviation Department.
