Durango-La Plata County Airport sits on a mesa about 19 km southeast of Durango, at an elevation of 6,685 feet (2,038 m). It is a commercial service airport in southwest Colorado, and it also handles a large share of general aviation traffic. Scheduled airline service began in November 1946, and the single runway was lengthened in 1977 so jets could land.

United and American are the two airlines on the schedule. Year-round nonstops run to Denver, Dallas-Fort Worth and Phoenix, and a seasonal service flies to Houston. United carried 57% of passengers in 2025 and American carried the other 43%. Load factors that year finished at 83%.

The terminal is small, with three boarding gates and five aircraft stands. A pre-security restaurant, a gift shop and free Wi-Fi are on site. A multi-year expansion of about $28 million began in the early 2020s, with the first phase finished in spring 2024. Traffic has set records for three years running and 2025 volumes were about 40% above pre-pandemic levels.
