Denver International Airport Guide
Denver International Airport opened on February 28, 1995, replacing Stapleton International Airport. Located 40 km northeast of downtown Denver, it sits on 33,531 acres — the largest commercial airport land area in North America. The Jeppesen Terminal's peaked tensile roof, designed to evoke snow-capped mountains, has become one of the most recognizable airport structures in the United States.
DEN is the primary hub for United Airlines, which operates exclusively from Concourse B with 72 gates. Southwest and Frontier also maintain significant operations here. In 2024, the airport served 82.4 million passengers — the first time it exceeded 80 million — making it the fifth busiest airport globally by passenger volume and the third busiest in North America.
The airport has six runways, including Runway 16R/34L at 16,000 feet, the longest public-use runway in North America. An underground automated train connects the Jeppesen Terminal to all three concourses. DEN offers nonstop service to over 230 destinations across the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
