The airport is a designated U.S. Customs and Border Protection port of entry, handling both domestic and international traffic across two passenger terminals.
SJC is the Bay Area's second-busiest airport by passenger volume, behind San Francisco International. Southwest Airlines operates the largest share of flights from the airport, accounting for roughly half of all departing passengers. The airport served nearly 12 million passengers in 2024 and offers nonstop service to more than 40 domestic and international destinations.
The airport is named after Norman Mineta, a San Jose native who served as mayor of the city, U.S. Secretary of Commerce, and U.S. Secretary of Transportation. Commercial operations began in 1949. The airport is owned and operated by the City of San Jose.
