San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) sits about 4.8 km northwest of downtown San Jose, close to the interchange of Interstate 880 and US Route 101. The airport is a designated U.S. Customs and Border Protection port of entry, handling both domestic and international traffic through two passenger terminals: Terminal A, with 16 gates, and Terminal B, with 20 gates. Two parallel runways, each 11,000 feet long, serve the airfield.
SJC is the Bay Area's second-busiest airport by passenger volume, behind San Francisco International. Southwest Airlines carries more than half of all passengers. The airport served nearly 12 million passengers in 2024 and offers more than 40 nonstop domestic and international destinations, including Hawaii, Mexico and Tokyo.
The airport is named after Norman Mineta, a San Jose native who served as mayor of the city, U.S. Secretary of Commerce, and U.S. Secretary of Transportation. Commercial operations began in 1949. The airport is owned and operated by the City of San Jose.
