Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport sits on the shores of San Francisco Bay, 14 km from downtown Oakland and about 30 km east of downtown San Francisco. Opened in 1927 and owned and operated by the Port of Oakland ever since, it is the third-busiest commercial airport in the Bay Area. The airport covers 2,600 acres and handled over 10.8 million passengers in 2024.

Southwest Airlines dominates operations at OAK, accounting for roughly 80% of passenger traffic and running its largest California operation from Terminal 2. Terminal 1 handles all other carriers, including international services to Mexico and Central America, and underwent a $100 million renovation completed in 2017. A FedEx Express cargo hub occupies the North Field.

OAK is directly connected to the regional BART rail network via the Oakland Airport Connector, which opened in 2014 and links the terminals to the Coliseum BART station. This makes the airport one of the more transit-accessible airports in California. A major Terminal Modernization and Development Project is planned to replace ageing Terminal 1 facilities.
