South Arkansas Regional Airport at Goodwin Field Guide

South Arkansas Regional Airport sits about nine miles west of El Dorado in Union County, Arkansas. The City of El Dorado owns it. The FAA classifies it as a general aviation airport, and it also handles scheduled passenger service.

The Civil Aeronautics Administration built the field in the early 1940s under the National Defense airport program. The terminal building dates from 1947 and is still in use. Chicago and Southern began airline flights here in 1945, and Trans-Texas followed in 1953. Later service came and went. SeaPort Airlines flew Cessna Caravans to Houston, Hot Springs and Memphis until it ceased operations in September 2016, and Southern Airways Express later served the field under the Essential Air Service program.

Contour Airlines began scheduled flights to Dallas/Fort Worth on March 16, 2026. The airport has two asphalt runways: 5/23, which is 6,601 feet long and was repaved in May 2024, and 13/31, which is 5,100 feet long. Runway 17/35 is closed. The airport recorded 18,020 aircraft operations in the year ending July 2020, and 19 aircraft were based on the field in April 2022.
