Shinyanga Airport guide

Shinyanga Airport, also called Ibadakuli Airport, serves the town of Shinyanga in north-western Tanzania. It lies about 10 kilometres north-east of the town, off the B6 road, at an elevation of 1,200 metres. The Tanzania Airports Authority manages it.

The single runway, 11/29, is 2,068 metres long. A Sh45 billion expansion and rehabilitation project began in April 2023 and covers the runway, taxiways, aircraft parking and power systems. A new terminal building is under construction. In June 2026 the works were reported 98 per cent complete, take-off and landing tests had passed, and an Air Tanzania aircraft had landed during testing.

The airport is classified as Category C with Fire Category 5 status. The Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority is finalising certification. Air Tanzania has said it plans to add Shinyanga to its network. Until certification is complete, travellers should confirm with Air Tanzania whether scheduled flights are operating before planning a trip to Shinyanga.
