Bukoba Airport guide

Bukoba Airport serves the Kagera Region of north-western Tanzania. It lies on Sokoine Road on the western shore of Lake Victoria, at an elevation of 1,148 metres. The British colonial administration first built it in the 1940s. Only domestic flights operate from it.

The single asphalt runway, 13/31, is 1,600 metres long. Government-funded works began in 2008. The first phase lengthened the runway. The second phase, from 2010, paved the runway, taxiway and apron and added a new terminal building. The programme cost about TSh 20.5 billion (US$8.8 million) and finished by November 2016.

In 2024 the airport handled 44,259 passengers, 1,146 aircraft movements and 31 tonnes of cargo. Air Tanzania, Auric Air and Precision Air connect it to Mwanza and Dar es Salaam.
