Diori Hamani International Airport Guide
Diori Hamani International Airport is the main gateway to Niamey, the capital of Niger. Located 9 kilometres southeast of the city centre along Route Nationale 1, it handles all international and domestic passenger flights through a single terminal building. The airport sits at an elevation of 223 metres and shares its site with Base Aérienne 101, the primary base of the Niger Air Force.
The airport was established as a military airfield during the French colonial era and transitioned to civil aviation after Niger gained independence in 1960. It was named after Hamani Diori, Niger's first president. A major modernisation in the 2010s rebuilt the runway, upgraded navigation systems, and introduced a new passenger terminal. The facility is now operated by Summa Airports Niger SARLU.
Nine airlines serve the airport, connecting Niamey to destinations across West Africa, North Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. Key routes include Istanbul, Addis Ababa, Casablanca, Tunis, and multiple West African capitals. Turkish Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines operate the longest non-stop services from Niamey.
