Koné Airport guide

Koné Airport (ICAO NWWD) is a small public aerodrome serving Koné, the administrative centre of North Province in New Caledonia. It sits on the west coast of Grande Terre, about 7 metres above sea level, close to the town it serves.

The aerodrome has one asphalt runway, 09/27, listed at 1,000 metres. Works that began in May 2013 extended the usable length to 1,220 metres so that ATR 42 aircraft could fly at full capacity. It is open to both instrument and visual traffic.

Koné is a regional airfield rather than a gateway. Scheduled service is domestic, run by Air Calédonie on the Nouméa-Magenta route, which links the north-west coast with the capital. Flights have at times been suspended and later resumed, so check the current timetable before travelling.

The territory's civil aviation directorate, the Direction Territoriale de l'Aviation Civile, operates the aerodrome. Ground services are limited, and most visitors reach Koné and the surrounding north-west coast by road from the airfield.
