Kengtung Airport guide

Kengtung Airport (ICAO VYKG), also written Kyaing Tong Airport, serves Kengtung in eastern Shan State, close to Myanmar's borders with Thailand and Laos. It sits at an elevation of 824 m (2,705 ft) and lies about 5 km southeast of the town.

The airport has one asphalt runway, 12/30, measuring 2,382 m (7,815 ft). That length takes the turboprops used on Myanmar's domestic network, and a logistics assessment lists 75-seat aircraft such as the ATR 72 as the largest it handles. The same assessment reports no fuel service on site, so aircraft refuel at a transit airport such as Heho or carry extra fuel for the return leg.

Scheduled flights connect Kengtung with Heho, Mandalay and Yangon. Carriers named in published listings include Myanmar National Airlines, Myanmar Airways International, Mann Yadanarpon Airlines, Air KBZ and Air Thanlwin, though the listings differ and Myanmar schedules change often, so check with the airline before travelling. Most of the region around Kengtung is reached by road, and the airport is the quickest link to the rest of the country.
