Antananarivo Ivato International Airport is Madagascar's busiest airport, handling close to 1 million passengers annually. It sits 16 kilometres northwest of the capital city centre in the commune of Ivato, a journey that takes roughly 35 minutes by road under normal traffic conditions. The airport has operated as a mixed civil-military platform since the 1960s, with the first international departure recorded in October 1961.

The airport is the primary hub for Madagascar Airlines, which operates the country's domestic network alongside limited regional services. International connectivity includes direct routes to East Africa via Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways, to the Indian Ocean islands via Air Austral and Ewa Air, to South Africa via Airlink, to the Middle East via Emirates, and to Europe via Air France, Corsair International, and Turkish Airlines.

In December 2021, a new 17,500 square metre international terminal opened, equipped with passenger boarding bridges and an automated baggage handling system. This replaced the previous international facility, which was subsequently dedicated to domestic operations. The airport has a single asphalt runway measuring 3,100 metres.
