Tangier Ibn Battuta Airport guide

Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport sits in Boukhalef, southwest of Tangier city centre, and is the main air gateway to northern Morocco. Named after the 14th-century traveller Ibn Battuta, who was born in Tangier, the airport was formerly known as Tanger-Boukhalef Airport. The commercial airport opened in 1948, and a new terminal building opened in 2008. It is managed by ONDA, the Office National des Aéroports.

The airport has one operational runway, the 3,500 m runway 10/28, which can handle aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 747 and Airbus A380-800. A second runway, 07/25, is 2,000 m long and closed. The terminal covers 12,000 m² and was designed for 1,250,000 passengers per year. Ryanair, Air Arabia Maroc and Royal Air Maroc are the major carriers, connecting Tangier to destinations across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

A bus line serves the city centre with a fixed 40-dirham fare and a journey of about 40 minutes, and grand taxis operate from the terminal around the clock. An expansion budgeted at MAD 3.27 billion, with completion scheduled for June 2029, includes a new passenger terminal and control tower and is intended to raise annual capacity to 7 million passengers, in preparation for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
