Tangier Ibn Battuta Airport Guide
Tangier Ibn Battuta Airport sits 15 km southwest of Tangier city centre, serving Morocco's northern gateway to Europe. Named after the 14th-century Moroccan explorer Ibn Battuta who was born in Tangier, the airport operates from a terminal opened in 2008 that replaced the former Boukhalef Airport facility. It is managed by ONDA, the Office National des Aéroports.
The airport handled approximately 2.4 million passengers in 2024, a 20% increase over the previous year, making it Morocco's fifth busiest airport. Low-cost carriers account for around half of all traffic, with Ryanair operating the most departures — roughly 82 per week. Air Arabia Maroc and Royal Air Maroc are the other two dominant carriers, connecting Tangier to European cities in France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, and the UK.
A major expansion is underway to prepare for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, with a new 55,000 m² terminal scheduled for completion by 2028. This will increase annual capacity from the current 1.2 million to 4.4 million passengers. The airport is certified to ISO 9001 quality standards.
