New Ishigaki Airport Guide
New Ishigaki Airport, also called Painushima Ishigaki Airport, stands on the eastern coast of Ishigaki Island in the Shiraho district. Okinawa Prefecture built it to replace the old airport near the city, and it opened on 7 March 2013. The drive to central Ishigaki takes about 30 minutes.
The airport handled about 2.6 million passengers in 2024. It has a single 2,000 m runway, which takes jets and gives the island direct flights to Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka as well as Naha and other Okinawan islands. International flights connect Ishigaki with Taipei, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong and Seoul.
The terminal has about 12,560 m² of floor space, with check-in and arrivals on the ground floor, departures on the second floor and an observation deck on the roof. The international section was enlarged in 2022. Ishigaki Air Terminal Co., Ltd. runs the terminal building. The airport is the main gateway to the Yaeyama Islands, and Ryukyu Air Commuter flies on to Yonaguni from here.
