Nagoya Airport / JASDF Komaki Air Base guide

Nagoya Airport, also called Komaki Airport, sits in the northern suburbs of Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture. It shares its site with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's Komaki Air Base, and the military and civil operations use the same runway. The airfield began as a military field in 1944.

Most scheduled flights moved to Chubu Centrair International Airport on 17 February 2005, and the field was renamed Nagoya Airfield. J-Air, the Japan Airlines regional subsidiary, ran its hub here until 2011. Fuji Dream Airlines has been the only scheduled carrier since then and flies its Embraer regional jets to domestic cities such as Fukuoka, Sapporo Okadama and Niigata.

The airport has no rail link, so buses from Nagoya Station and other points in the city are the usual public transport. A Mitsubishi aircraft factory stands beside the airfield, where the Mitsubishi Regional Jet was assembled, and the terminal building houses the offices of Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation. General aviation and business aircraft also use the field.
