Chubu Centrair International Airport guide

Chubu Centrair International Airport sits on an artificial island in Ise Bay, built on reclaimed land off the Chita Peninsula rather than adjoining the coast directly. It replaced the older Nagoya airfield as the region's main gateway and serves the Chukyo metropolitan area, Japan's third-largest, an industrial base built around Toyota's automotive plants and Mitsubishi's aircraft manufacturing. The Meitetsu Airport Line runs directly beneath the terminal, giving a fast rail connection into central Nagoya.

The airport is known for a few features rare among Japan's gateways: a hot-spring bath, Fu no Yu, on the fourth-floor observation deck of Terminal 1, open to travelers between flights with views over the runway and bay, and Flight of Dreams, a hangar-style building built around ZA001, the first Boeing 787 ever produced. A high-speed ferry crosses Ise Bay to Tsu in Mie Prefecture in about 45 minutes, cutting the trip roughly in half compared with driving or taking the train around the bay.

A replacement runway is under construction east of the existing strip, allowing the airport to continue operating during future resurfacing of the main runway and enabling round-the-clock operations once it opens around 2028. Cargo traffic through the airport supports the aerospace and automotive manufacturers concentrated across the surrounding Chukyo industrial belt.
