Mashhad International Airport guide

Mashhad Shahid Hasheminejad International Airport lies about 8 kilometres southeast of central Mashhad, the capital of Razavi Khorasan province in northeastern Iran and home to the Imam Reza shrine, one of the holiest sites in Shia Islam. The airfield operates as a joint civil-military facility, co-located with an Iranian Air Force base. It is Iran's second-busiest airport after Tehran's Mehrabad, handling more than 8 million passengers in the Iranian year ending March 2025.

The route network reaches around 30 domestic cities plus more than two dozen international destinations across the Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia and Europe. Iran Air and Mahan Air operate as focus carriers alongside Iranian airlines such as ATA Airlines, Caspian Airlines and Iran Aseman Airlines, while foreign carriers including Qatar Airways, flydubai and Turkish Airlines connect Mashhad to regional hubs. A steady flow of religious travelers heading to the Imam Reza shrine, a short drive from the terminals, adds to the passenger volume.

Iran Airports Company operates the civilian side of the airport for the Government of Iran, which owns the site. The surrounding land is flat high desert at an elevation of nearly 1,000 metres, with the Binalud mountains rising to the west and northwest, toward Neyshabur and Chenaran respectively.
