Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport Guide
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport opened in 1924 as Dum Dum Airport, one of India's oldest airports, and was renamed in 1995 after the independence leader Subhas Chandra Bose. Located in Dum Dum, about 16 km north of central Kolkata, it is the main aviation gateway for eastern and northeastern India and is owned and operated by the Airports Authority of India.
The airport runs two parallel runways and a single integrated terminal that opened in 2013, replacing the earlier separate domestic and international buildings. The terminal spans 233,000 square metres and can process up to 25 million passengers a year, with 128 check-in counters, 78 immigration counters and 18 aerobridges under one roof.
CCU handled around 21.1 million passengers and 142,000 aircraft movements in the year to March 2026, a modest decline from the previous year. IndiGo and Air India carry most domestic traffic, while Emirates, Singapore Airlines and Biman Bangladesh Airlines anchor the international schedule to Southeast Asia and the Gulf.
