Maharshi Valmiki International Airport serves Ayodhya and the neighbouring town of Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh. It stands on the site of the former Faizabad airstrip, which the Indian Air Force used before the civil airport was built. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it on 30 December 2023, and IndiGo flew the first commercial service on 10 January 2024.

The airport has one concrete runway, 11/29, which is 2,250 metres long. The single terminal covers about 6,500 square metres and has nine check-in counters, three baggage conveyor belts and two lounges. Its design draws on Ramayana themes, with Madhubani and Pattachitra artwork, a shikara-topped roof and seven columns that stand for the seven kandas of the epic. The airport was first proposed under the name of Lord Rama and took the name of the sage Maharshi Valmiki in December 2023.

Flights link Ayodhya with Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Navi Mumbai, Dehradun and Hisar. Traffic is closely tied to pilgrimage travel to the city. The Airports Authority of India has announced a Rs 1,625 crore expansion plan that targets a capacity of 6 million passengers a year and more aircraft parking bays.
