Indira Gandhi International Airport Guide

Indira Gandhi International Airport serves New Delhi and the wider National Capital Region from a site in Palam, on the city's southwestern edge. Commercial flights moved here from the smaller Safdarjung Airport in 1962, and the airport took its current name in 1986, replacing the earlier Palam Airport name. Delhi International Airport Limited, a joint venture led by GMR Group with the Airports Authority of India as a minority partner, has operated the site since 2006 under a long-term concession.

The airport is India's busiest by passenger volume and ranks among the ten busiest worldwide. Air India and IndiGo run it as a primary hub, alongside long-haul carriers including Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Lufthansa, British Airways and Singapore Airlines linking Delhi to the Gulf, Europe and East Asia. Four parallel runways handle the traffic, the longest stretching 4,430 metres.

A renovated terminal reopened in October 2025 with self-service bag drop and automated boarding bridges, taking on part of Air India and IndiGo's domestic schedule. The airport also operates a dedicated general aviation terminal and a separate air cargo complex.
