Darbhanga Airport guide

Darbhanga Airport is a domestic airport on the northern edge of Darbhanga in Bihar, in the Ranipur area beside National Highway 27. It is an Indian Air Force station with a civil enclave, and the Airports Authority of India runs the passenger operation.

The field began as a private strip built by Maharaja Kameshwar Singh of Darbhanga, whose Darbhanga Aviation flew converted Douglas DC-3 aircraft from 1950 to 1962. The Indian Air Force took it over during the 1962 war with China. Scheduled passenger flights began on 8 November 2020 under the UDAN regional connectivity scheme.

A single asphalt runway, 10/28, is 2,743 metres long. Passenger numbers rose 48 per cent in the 2025-26 financial year, and aircraft movements rose 37.5 per cent. Air cargo reached 589 tonnes. Passengers currently use a small interim terminal of about 1,400 square metres with six check-in counters. A two-storey terminal of about 51,800 square metres is under construction, and Bihar has approved land for a longer runway.
