Adisutjipto International Airport guide

Adisutjipto Airport sits about 6 km from the centre of Yogyakarta. It began as a landing ground at Maguwo, built in 1940 by the Dutch East Indies government as a military airbase. It took its present name on 17 August 1952, after Agustinus Adisutjipto, an Indonesian Air Force officer and National Hero.

The airport shares its grounds with Adisutjipto Air Force Base, home to the Indonesian Air Force Academy and the Dirgantara Mandala Museum. The Air Force owns the land, and the passenger terminal works as a civil enclave inside the base. A single asphalt runway, 2,200 m by 45 m, serves two aprons with 11 aircraft stands. Maguwo railway station connects to the airport by tunnel.

Traffic has fallen sharply since commercial operations moved to Yogyakarta International Airport in Kulon Progo, about 43 km away, in 2020. The airport handled 126,812 passengers and 2,536 aircraft movements in 2024. The Ministry of Transportation revoked its international status in April 2024, and it now carries limited domestic flights. Terminal A, built for about 800,000 passengers a year, reopened on 1 February 2022. Citilink and FlyJaya fly to Jakarta Halim Perdanakusuma, and Susi Air flies small aircraft to Bandung and Karimunjawa.
