Pinang Kampai Airport guide

Pinang Kampai Airport serves Dumai, a port and oil-refining city on the Strait of Malacca coast of Riau province, Sumatra. Its ICAO code is WIBD. The airport sits about 17 metres above sea level and has a single 1,800 by 40 metre asphalt runway, aligned 03/21.

State oil company Pertamina built the airport to support its operations around Dumai. Pelita Air, a Pertamina subsidiary, has flown charters for Chevron Pacific Indonesia from here since the 1980s. From 2008 Pertamina lent the airport to the Dumai city administration, which ran it until the loan ended. In December 2013 the city closed it to aircraft with more than 30 seats because it lacked Transportation Ministry certification, and trees at both runway ends were a safety risk. Pelita Air Service took back management in December 2017.

Traffic has been modest. Passenger numbers grew from 22,097 in 2014 to 122,646 in 2017. Pelita Air Service completed a reactivation of the airport in February 2026, aimed at regular and charter domestic flights. The Dumai city government has proposed routes to Padang, Pekanbaru, Medan, Batam and Jakarta. The terminal has check-in counters, an X-ray baggage scanner, a cafe and a restaurant.
