Thessaloniki Airport "Makedonia" is located in the Mikra district, about 15 km southeast of Thessaloniki city centre. It is Greece's third-busiest airport after Athens and Heraklion, handling 7.4 million passengers in 2024 across 57,080 aircraft movements. The airport is operated by Fraport Greece under a concession agreement that began in 2017.

The airport has two connected terminals opened in different eras. T1, the original building, has twelve departure gates (13–24) handling both Schengen and non-Schengen traffic. T2 opened in early 2021, adding 28 check-in counters and twelve further gates (01–12) primarily for Schengen and domestic flights. Together the terminals serve routes to over 100 destinations across Europe and beyond.

Aegean Airlines, Olympic Air, and Sky Express use SKG as a base and collectively account for the largest share of domestic and regional traffic. The Athens–Thessaloniki route is among the ten busiest in the EU. Two active runways serve the airport, with the main runway (10/28) extended to 3,440 metres following a major modernisation completed in 2019.
