Westray Airport Guide
Westray Airport stands at Aikerness on the northern tip of Westray, one of the North Isles of Orkney. Pierowall, the island's main village, lies about two miles to the southwest. Westray has around 600 residents, and the airport links them to Kirkwall on the Orkney Mainland and to neighbouring Papa Westray.
The airfield holds a CAA Ordinary Licence for public transport of passengers and flying instruction. It is not licensed for night use. A graded hardcore runway of 527 m runs 09/27, and a 457 m grass strip lies on 13/31. A third runway on 01/19 is no longer in use.
Loganair is the only scheduled operator, flying small eight-seat aircraft. The service to Papa Westray is among the shortest scheduled flights in the world, with a published flight time of about two minutes including taxiing. Orkney Islands Council has applied to replace the current terminal, which is about 30 years old, with a new building containing a departures waiting room, a kitchen and a watch room.
