Papa Westray Airport Guide
Papa Westray Airport serves Papa Westray, known locally as Papay, in the north of the Orkney Islands. The airfield lies about 44 km north of Kirkwall. Orkney Islands Council owns and runs it, and it holds a CAA Ordinary Licence for public passenger transport and flight instruction. It is not licensed for night use.
The airfield has three runways: a 527 m hardcore runway, a 293 m hardcore runway and a 406 m grass runway. Loganair flies Britten-Norman Islander aircraft here, with seating for eight passengers.
Loganair began flying to Papa Westray on 4 December 1967, as part of the Orkney inter-island air service. The Westray to Papa Westray leg covers about 2.7 km and is scheduled at around 1.5 minutes including taxiing, making it the shortest scheduled passenger flight in the world, and the airfield opened in August 1967. Loganair also links the island to Kirkwall and North Ronaldsay.
