Campbeltown Airport Guide
Campbeltown Airport stands at Machrihanish, on the southwest tip of the Kintyre peninsula. It is the only scheduled air link for the Mull of Kintyre, where the road to Glasgow is long and winding. The airport sits on the former RNAS Machrihanish airfield.
The site began as a Royal Navy station and later served the RAF, NATO squadrons and the US Marine Corps. The runway was rebuilt between 1960 and 1962. The US Navy handed the airfield back to the Ministry of Defence in 1995, and the Machrihanish Airbase Community Company bought it in 2012. Highlands and Islands Airports operates the public airport under a lease. The original runway 11/29 measures 3,049 m, the longest at any public airport in Scotland, and the lease covers two-thirds of it.
Loganair flies to Glasgow. The airport handled 7,307 passengers and 1,049 aircraft movements in 2025. Departing passengers have not been security screened since 2017.
