Caen Carpiquet airport guide

Caen-Carpiquet Airport sits in the commune of Carpiquet, about 7 km west of the centre of Caen in Normandy. It started as an air base inaugurated in August 1939 and later became the regional airport for Calvados.

The airport has three runways. Runway 13/31 is 1,900 m long and carries all scheduled flights; runway 31 has a Category III ILS. Two grass runways serve recreational aviation. A single terminal building dating from 1968 handles all passengers.

Scheduled services are small in number. Year-round routes link Caen with Lyon, Marseille, Nice and Toulouse, and Air France and Volotea are the main carriers. Corsican destinations such as Ajaccio and Bastia run from April to October, and Chalair Aviation has flown a seasonal route to Kerry in Ireland. Marseille is the busiest route, with 66,484 passengers in 2024.

The airport handled about 291,000 passengers in 2024, down from 329,632 in 2023 after the runway closed from 11 March to 18 April 2024 for requalification and LED lighting work. The 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings brought around twenty international delegations through the airport that year.
