Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport sits 12 km northeast of central Madrid and is Spain's largest and busiest airport. It handled 68.1 million passengers in 2025, ranking it fifth among European airports. The airport covers 3,050 hectares, making it the second-largest airport in Europe by land area.

The airport is the primary hub for Iberia, Iberia Express, Air Europa, and several Spanish carriers, which together account for a significant share of total traffic. Around 80 airlines connect Madrid to more than 200 non-stop destinations across 70 countries. The airport operates four runways and processed over 430,000 aircraft movements in 2025.

The facility is divided into two main complexes. Terminals 1, 2, and 3 are adjacent and primarily serve SkyTeam, Star Alliance, and low-cost carriers. Terminal 4, designed by Richard Rogers and opened in 2006, together with its satellite T4S handles Iberia and Oneworld alliance traffic including long-haul intercontinental routes. T4S is connected to T4 by an underground automated transit system.
